Thomas Raahauge Lund Nielsen

Position: System Design Engineer at NOV Flexibles
Technical University of Denmark (DTU) - M.Sc. Wind Energy

Thomas has 3+ years of experience and has been working with research in the field of floating wind energy, before moving to the oil and gas industry – two very different approaches in his three years as a professional engineer. He is currently involved in design of flexible structures that have to survive in harsh offshore environments, and his work changes between combining wave- and structural mechanics in order to assess loads and to meetings with clients. Before that, Thomas was doing research at DTU in the field of wind energy, and he, therefore, has some experience with both the academic and private sectors so far.

Getting the opportunity to assist a student in the questions that he/she may have for the path going forward is a big motivation for Thomas. He has himself tried many roads to end up in the field where he is now, and the ups and downs he will happily share. To broaden horizons and maybe challenge the usual road. Since Thomas has recently made the transition from being a student to working as an engineer, he would be happy to help a mentee who has thoughts about this shift and the choice between academia and the private sector – but he is very open to helping no matter the case.
