Valeriu has 14+ years of experience in software development in various environments and setups, from apartment size start-ups to corporations, from low-level assembly code to distributed enterprise applications. In his current position at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, Valeriu writes open source tools for processing and distributing genetic data and working in the midst of software development, mathematical modeling, and bioinformatics. Besides this, Valeriu has a wide range of international experiences in different companies and has a background from Romania, where he studied his bachelor’s degree.
A few years ago, Valeriu had his first opportunity to lead a team of junior engineers. He was pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback he got for being in a mentoring/managerial role he had no prior training for. Furthermore, he is aware that proper guidance at the inception of one’s career can make a huge difference in the long run. He is not saying that he’s the most qualified mentor out there, but he’s relentless and willing to work hard for it because he realizes that this is a growth journey for himself as well.
Thus, Valeriu will gladly work with an ambitious mentee, who is curious about high-performance software, mathematical modelling and optimization, or bioinformatics.
